PSG has now secured the season-opening cup on 14 different occasions.
The Parisian giants required a dramatic leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.
The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the match between the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup winners after the French winger opened the scoring early on.
However, the southern French side fired two times late to take a surprise lead. Initially, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.
In a remarkable twist of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial leveler in the final moments to force the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping decisive attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.
In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all scored successfully for PSG to seal a 4-1 penalty win.
The record winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the last 13 years.
